Connecting a Custom Domain

If you want to use a custom domain name for your website (eg. www.example.com), there are a few extra steps.

How to register a domain?

To register a domain we recommend using Hetzner or Namecheap as your domain registrar. Follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Hetzner or Namecheap domain search page.
  2. Search for the domain name you want to register to ensure it’s available.
  3. Once you’ve found an available domain, add it to your cart.
  4. Complete the registration process by providing your contact and payment information.
  5. Review the registration details to ensure accuracy and confirm your purchase.

By following these simple steps, you can easily register a domain using Hetzner or Namecheap as your domain registrar.

How to add a custom domain to a RetroStack website?

  1. Click “Setup website publishing” on the bottom left of the RetroStack admin inteface.
  2. Select “Your custom domain” as a publishig option.
  3. Pay a small fee to keep our servers humming.
  4. Input the domain name you would like to use.
  5. Copy the CNAME record shown to your domain registrars DNS.
  6. After we verify the record is there, you are all done.

When changes are made to DNS records, such as adding or updating a CNAME, it takes time for these changes to propagate throughout the internet. This propagation period can vary but typically takes a few hours to complete. During this time, your website might not be visible from all parts of the world.
